hi every one,
a very good friend of mine only has one eye,he is a postman, he does not drive because of his sight,does anyone think he qualify for D.L.A

(I've reworded this because my first answer included irrelevant information about ESA - apologies. I can't think what made me do this.)

DLA is awarded for care and/or mobility needs, not for particular conditions.

On the face of it, I can't immediately see why he might have any care needs.

In relation to mobility needs, I can't think that he would qualify for the higher rate because of his ability to do his postal round. Although he is fine in the familiar place of his round, in theory he might need supervision in unfamiliar places, but since many people with monocular vision cope very well with mobility, it's not obvious why he might need any supervision.

However, that's just my gut reaction, and you would only know whether he was eligible by looking at the descriptors and applying them to him. You will find the detailed descriptors in the guides to DLA claims in the Help for Claimants section.

I doubt it, and with one eye depending on his depth of field and width of field ... if he gets an eye test there is a good chance he would be able to drive

Know a bit about this ccndition. The brain very quickly adjusts to receiving information from one eye and the person moves their head to ensure good vision. If you have to have a visual impairment this is possibly the least threatening one to have, do not expect that people with this as their only disability would qualify for DLA.

yes the auto scan you talk of is soon learnt by people with one eye that or they get run over I also reakon as I put that if he gets an eye test there is a chance they might let him drive too


the other factor they would take into account on sight problems is when did you lose the eye sight as what age and was it slow or fast lost

some people with sudden loss of some sight do get dla low care for a time till they get use to managing and to allow them time to learn the skills of sight lost managment
