Just further as I should have mentioned this earlier but I am a bit dozy on the meds at the moment. I don't know what percentage War Pension you receive, but if it is 60% or over, I would strongly advise you to put in a claim for the War Pension Unemployability Supplement(US).
This overlaps with ESA/IB so both cannot be claimed together, but the Unemployability Supplement does not have the draconian rules ESA has, nor does one have to attend WFI's and all that paliver.
US is now only avaiable to War Pensioners with an award of 60% disablement (it was originally 20%). It is, sadly in my view, not payable to claimants under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme either.

yes its 60% and I get unemply they withhold part of my IB which I have had for years 18 I think its when we move to esa I am trying to get my head around
the reason is very old IB claims like mine also still has a "serps pension" paid too and thats the part they still pay the rest over laps and of course the serps part is NOT index linked
as when we move to ESA I dont think regardless of which group they stick me in there is anything like the serps part of IB to be paid in which case i will get bugger all

Hi Dave,
Yes the serps payment form US is a very old system and hasn't been avaiable to War Pensioners for a number of years now.
If you wish, would you permit me to use your case as an example (no names will be mentioned) at a RBL Honarary Welfare Officers meeting and a VA&PC meeting the week after next to highlight aspects that I believe have not been properley thought through?. You will remain totally anonymous as 'just another veteran' but hopefully I should be able to elicit a proper answer for both yourself and other veterans in the same position.
Regards
Pete

no problem if you more details have you access to our emails address as a mod ?
serps by the way is paid by DWP not the vets if you had no war pension and was on ib back in ? 1980 ish you got IB plus serps ... then if you got war pension with unemply they took and still do take IB off you but you keep the serps
of course serps is not index linked so they send you a letter each year telling you what you would get if you did not have a war pension and leave the serps as it was 20 years ago

Hi Dave,
We monds do not have acces to members e-mails, but I can ask Steve (the site owner) to forward you my e-mail details.
Sorry I was a bit dozy on the meds earlier re the Serps- we do have a lot of veteran clients who are in receipt of them from the DWP and their War Pensions from SPVA. It can and does complicate things at times as some of the newer staff cannot comprehend receiving them.
