Unhelpful doctors report

I wonder if would be possible to contact the practice manager and have a meeting to discuss the contents of the letter. They are sometimes best placed to act has a go-between.

Hi, just had the same problem, what I did with my appeal I have told them that I have a new Doctor and although he treats me, he does not really know me, worded in the nicest possible way. I was advisd by D.I.A.L to write a report about my health and tell them how it affects me and what statements were wrong. I sent an 8 page document outlining all that I found wrong with their decission, plus the Drs and sent letters and printout from the DR files to support my claims. I had to pay for these. Although they did not ask for them I sent them any way. Read the Appel section on this site its really helpful, if you want to talk to someone find D.I.A.L in your area and make an appointment, its free and really helpful. I now have to wait for their reply. Put the work in I was told, you can not send the DLA too much info. Drs see you for 10 mins give you your pills. They have not got time to really get to know you, if we don't tell them every thing its our fault, but they have the right to put anything down, challenge them. I did I got an appology and I will give him my report so he know exactly what I am going through. You will laugh at this he said I could "walk 100 mts I guess!!" unaided and made no mention of sever pain I am in all the time. I walk with crutches and I walk slowly and 20 mtrs before I stop. I have been seeing him for 18mths. I have no option but to walk 100 mtrs to his office from the car. But, I was told to write it down. Fight, It's a computer that makes the first decision which is input by non medical personnel, if you need your allowance then you will find it in you some how to fight for it.

Re unhelpful doctors report. My husband had the same problem some years ago. GPs diagnose and treat your complaints and it is not part of their job to decide what your care needs are.(There are other professionals for that such as occupational therapists). It might help if you make a list of your care needs. Take the list with you and discuss it with your GP, and ask him if he agrees with it.Ask him to base his report on the list. You may have to be very tactful however, as you want him on your side. Sometimes GPs just do not have the time to even think how a patients illness or disability can affect their care needs. Hi Meledna, great advice, I will take that onboard too. At the moment we all need to support each other, best wishes to all having to go through this horrible time. At least we have each other.

You might be right that he has a political agenda. I used to be a benefits adviser for older people,and I was regularly dismayed by the attitude of some medical professionals - One GP was asked for a report about a patient whose feet were so swollen with arthritis that he could regularly not put his shoes on, she called him in, told him that he didn't have care needs (to his immense embarrassment), wrote to the Benefits Agency accordingly and his application was dismissed out of hand. I wrote to another asking for a referral so that I could get the Council to put in a level path for a patient of his who had fallen and broken a hip and was told it was nothing to do with the GP. I got very cross with that one, wrote and demanded whether it would be anything to do with him if his patient fell again and broke bones. He didn't reply. It can be helpful if the people who know you and care for you on a daily basis write statements about what exactly it is they do for you, along the lines of "I help x in and out of the bath, I organise their medication, I read their post", that sort of thing. Just an update... I have an appointment with my doctor on the 26th of this month and I am going to ask him for a new report. In the meantime, I have received a very good letter from my Occupational Therapist who has really supported me wonderfully in it. Do you think this will help even if my doctor remains uncooperative?
