Industrial Injury Disablement Benefit

I am going through the proverbial 'wringer' concerning Industrial Injury, and am concerned that there is so little information or support out there for people trying to get support for this benefit. I have Work Related Upper Limb Disorder - 'RSI' brought on through intensive keyboarding and lack of support by my employer. I applied for IIDB on the advice from a representative at the DWP office when applying for Incapacity Benefit (which I receive, thankfully, but for how long??!!). I attended a medical and was found to have 2 out of the 3 conditions related to WRULD, (a) Task Specific Focal Dystonia (b) Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. But then they deducted points for Carpal Tunnel as the Industrial Injuries lot do not accept typing as a contributor to this condition - duh - have they been living on another planet these past decade? So once the points were deducted for Carpal tunnel, and they gave me such a low score for the dystonia, they accepted my condition was due to excess typing injury and is for life, but I did not qualify for any benefit! I have appealed and have a tribunal hearing due some time in the next 4 months. Does anyone have any experience of these tribunals? I am stressed, broke and frustrated at having a debilitating, painful condition, and as someone else put it, need 'vindication' as much as the money! Any advice anyone has would be gratefully received.

As moderators our area of expertise is in relation to disability living allowance, attendance allowance, the personal capability assessment used in connection with incapacity benefits, and the work capability assessment used in connection with employment and support allowance. I am going through the same procedure. It takes a long while. And I mean a long while.
Keep on putting in for it. Make sure you visit your GP often so that you have lots of nagging on record.Take what ever med's they give you - unsuitable or not. Just don't swallow them if they don't do any good.
GP's don't like it if they can't poison you and med's prove you have had an appointment. They can't remove the drug from the record unlike your appointment record.
And just winge and moan about it on the form. And put a curse on people with it who say its not that bad!!

I disagree with Helen about the medication.

I think that if someone has a GP that is only happy if the patient takes medication, they need a different GP. I also think that if you take a prescription from your doctor but don't take the medication, you cannot expect your doctor to be able to monitor your progress and to make an accurate decision on future treatment options.

Thanks Helen, there's not much about IIDB out there, and the 'prescribed conditions' are so narrow - suspect they deliberately are making it hard to claim for WRULD re: typing, as it would open the proverbial floodgates! I have been through the whole medical route (just finished 4 week residential CBT!) and keep taking the meds, plus going through the personal injury process with my lawyers. All medical stuff says my working days are over, and I have 24/7 pain for my hard work. Can't find anything to offer advice on attending tribunal hearing for IIDB or what happens!
