DLA and WORK

My wife has Primory Progressive Multipule sclrosis and is working Just.

This horible desease does not get better she has just applied for DLA and has been refused. The result came back within a month is this becaues she can still work?

The fact that a person works has no bearing on their DLA entitlement, unless of course the claimed level of disability is not consistent with their employment.

It may very well be worthwhile if your wife is able to appeal the adverse DLA decision. Appeals have to be made within one month of the date on the DLA disallowance letter. If your wife does decide to appeal, do not ask for a reconsideration as the likelihood of the decision being changed is relatively low at this stage, and in any event a reconsideration will automatically be undertaken prior to consideration of the appeal.

The official appeal form is Form GL24.

I was working full time as a bus driver when i was awarded DLA at HRM and MRC, i have Becker Muscular Dystrophy.

I lost my job last December when my licence was revoked on medical grounds and see no chance of work in the future, had my WFI5 last week and am now only to report for interrogation every 6 months.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason why some get and others don't and i sincerely hope you have success at your next attempt.

I have a friend with MS who works and gets DLA, she is in a wheelchair and does an IT job from home.

Hi ranald, I too got HRM whilst working as a bus driver, I was involved in a bad traffic accident 20 years ago which has left me with a stiff left knee joint. The only reason i went bus driving was the fact there was no clutch work. In 2001 i got a letter from the DWP they were going to send a doctor to examine me(i had informed them i was working) anyway thee doctor called (pre ATOS days) examined me watched me go up a few stairs and felt the grating in my knee and said is it like that the whole time when you walk, I said yes. I thought i would lose the benefit but he said you are entitled to it you are not doing a job that does not entitle you to the DLA(and if they refuse you appeal) How times have changed. Best Wishes
