Pain Relief & DMs

I got the message. I was wrong to think that Amitriptyline has nothing to do with painkilling. I apologise for any irritation that may have caused anybody.

Bill's original question was about what information the DWP have or refer to, to get an indication of the level of pain people may suffer. I was only intending to address that question.

As I stated in a previous post, I will keep my mouth firmly shut when medication is being discussed.

when it comes to meds and pain the DWP are poor in the information to decision makers and the information provided by can contradictory.

DWP Guidance can indicate that a condition is not as disabling as reported by claimant. It can be well managed and not limit function, mobility and activity.

A Pain and Meds Diary is very useful. Also the types of pain can be significant. Is it dull and boring and chronic in or is it sharp sudden and acute. Do both occur? How do the different types of pain affect ability and disability! Do meds work with all pain or only certain types.

Also, there is an issue where normal med regimes have been ruled out in patients due to complications with existing conditions or side effects. If this is the case that needs to be reported too.

DMs and DWP Docs will often assume that a condition can be managed with meds - unless informed otherwise, and also why!
