DLA Renewal After 17 years was created by tricia50
Is it worth me renewing my claim. I Applied for DLA 17 years ago and got the middle rate care and lower rate mobility for Epilepsy and asthma. Since then I have a prolsped disc and mental health issues I am dianosed with emotionaly unstable personality disorder, and major recurrant depressive disorder aswell as still epilepsy / conversion disorder and asthma. I am new to this forum and a full member I here the goverment are trying to abolish DLA is this just rumours and am I better off staying on the ammmount I am on for life rather than claim for more

I hope someone can answer my question

thanks

If you already receive an award of DLA and ask that it is superseded and increased, there is always a risk that your award could be reduced, remain the same or stopped altogether, rather than increased.

It is rare for people's awards to be reduced or lost in this way, but it does happen. So, if you have an existing award, it is always very valuable to get an opinion from a welfare rights worker if you possibly can, before going ahead with a request for an increase in the award.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Tricia, yes you should reapply for the higher rate as you say you have got worse since you claimed back in 1992, if you need more help and supervision both at night and day then you need the higher rate for DLA and Care Allowence, your docter will help and addvise you on this as they are the ones who look after you through your dissability dont give up good luck there are to many of us that need help and just let it go so we dont lose out but if our GPs are behind us ( as mine is) then we should fight for what is right for us, if we dont do anything for ourselves then no-one will dont you think we have worked for most of what we are asking for surely we (you) have paid your dues, over the years!

The above quote is very true but if you are already on middle rate care and you have night time care needs for the majority of nights and it is just the care that you want to increase to the high rate when you ring the DLA ask for a form DBD138 it is a 10 page tick box questioner about night time care needs only.hopefully they would just use that to make the decision but there is always a risk not a high one granted that they may on seeing the dbd138 decide to issue a new claim pack
