Well said Jim ,
I was trying to think of a non inflammatory reply to the above postings , but fear i would have made a Gordon Brown like comment , but this time with no apology due .
I see it all the time ... people getting upset by what they perceive another group is or isn't getting, without knowing the real facts.
It's a slippery slope.

Thanks Rich,

In the 5 years I've been moderating for Steve, I've always done my best to treat all members equally, irrespective of who or what their views are.

From the feedback I've had over the years, I think most members would agree.

Best wishes.

Jim

Following a 'report to moderator' from the original poster Lida, this thread is now locked pending Steve Donnison's return. The accusations levelled at me are to say he least unfounded. Quote : " How dare you put me down and criticise me for telling it like it is? You have dissed my personal observations and experience."

Members who know me know I will always allow free expression, but not criticism of junkies, single parents, asylum seekers etc. etc. without knowing the full story.

Our rules are laid down in the FAQ section and if members don't accept them, they risk having their membership cancelled, and their subscription fee refunded.

Regretfully, the software must be playing up, as it won't allow to lock this thread.

Therefore, could all moderators NOT clear any further posts to this thread until Steve returns next week.

Hi All,

I would just like to make it clear that Benefits and Work exists to offer support to all claimants, including those who are, in the eyes of others:

"recently-arrived, those who have made a career of shirking, the junkie and the repeat single mother."

We don't, however, exist to judge people whose lives we know nothing about or to offer a platform to those who seek to do so.

I'm more than happy to offer my public support to Jim as a moderator and to endorse his decision to lock this thread, which will now be allowed to sink quietly into obscurity.

Steve
