ESA Migration to UC online form doesnt appear to work/make sense declaring bnfts was created by ScotD23
Hi this website s a fantastic help but even with the online guides we struggle to get our heads around everything and take it all in. We live in Scotland, my son is on ESA and PIP, pretty sure in work related group though that's a nonsense and they clearly think so as ask nothing else of him for years. He also gets something enhanced /disabilty on ESA which we are pretty sure due to his PIP (daily living not mobility)
We are trying to do the online UC migration following receipt of letter.
However in the first stage to-do-list there is something we don't understand.
There is a section 'Income Other than Earnings' - clearly where you note other benefits.
The first question asks 'if you receive any other benefits : ESA/PIP, so of course we answer YES to this, Then all the next questions are clear NO's and refer to pensions and the like.
There are np other questions anywhere that mention or ask about ESA or PIP.
Then when we have finished that section we go to the overall to-do-list summary to click all correct before submitting claim and it states 'is not getting any other payments or benefits'. Clearly that makes no sense and seems incorrect, we have tried redoing it several times, is this normal or does the form just not work? If so should we maybe video us completing it in case this causes issue further along?
Otherwise we called citizens advice and they gave us a current estimate which was over what he gets, but we are sure that is because they based it on support group, They stated we should perhaps ask that to be reviewed/request migration extension = I think they didn't pick up that you can be left in work group with enhanced disability due to PIP, from my understanding, but we are feeling that seems too much additional stress.
Lastly we understand although this is supposed to be an automatic crossover, there is still possibly an interview. Citizens advice said there would be? Might this just be by phone if we add a mobile number? Citizens advice said normally ESA will be £2-300 less a month (That's like 40%) on UC hence the transition payment to cover difference.
Thanks

Hi ScotD23,
You say " Then when we have finished that section we go to the overall to-do-list summary to click all correct before submitting claim and it states 'is not getting any other payments or benefits'."
This issue has been previously commented on and is due to bad wording by the DWP as the form should have said you are not getting any other payments or Benefits apart from those you have just reported. So don't let that prevent you from submitting the UC application.
If your son is in the ESA Support Group then he will be placed in the UC equivalent which is called LCWRA ( limited capacity for work and work related activities ).
I cannot say what sort of interview you will be given. Your son will have to agree his commitments which unfortunately is a part of Universal Credit which wasn't in the old ESA.

Many thanks. One thing we are confused about is if there will be the same pretty much hands off approach when on uc given he is now significantly worse with more conditions than when his award started, we are guessing the opposite might be the case As only support group goes to LCWRA, is it possible to get reassessed for group after a move to UC?

Hi ScotD23,
I think you need to double check his ESA group...WRAG or Support...as it makes a lot of difference.
