ESA/PIP to UC managed migration help please was created by GlassJune
Hi there,
Thanks so much for any help please I’m very anxious.
I have just applied for universal credit as part of the managed migration process. I am on income related ESA in the support group and also PIP / housing benefit / child tax credit.
I am quite anxious and I have a question:
I have signed the declaration etc and gone through identity checks so the application is final.
On my UC account under the “To Do List” tab it states:
“Tell us about your work search”
Is this normal to have this tab option even though I am in the support group?
I fear that I have acccidentally clicked the wrong thing for “Do any of your conditions restrict your ability to look for work?” I am anxious that I may have selected NO by mistake because it asks me on my account “Tell us about your work search”
Or, does everyone see this on their account? Despite being on ESA SUPPORT GROUP?
Once clicked on it states:
The next few questions will ask you about:
your experience
work you can do
work you are looking for
Your work coach will use your answers to create your commitments.
Commitments are things that you agree to do for your Universal Credit. They are based on your circumstances and are personal to you.
Then it states:
Work I could do
When you're ready, you'll need to look for and take any work that you can do. List jobs or sectors you're interested in.
Any advice please is most helpful.
Does everyone see this “Tell us about your work search” option? Should I have this option? Have I clicked on the wrong thing to see this, as above mentioned? I’m in the support group and surely I don’t have to do this? I’m so worried.
Also for “What happens next” it states - We are processing your claim. We will call you in the next 2 to 3 days to check the information you have given us.
Is this normal too?
Any and all help, as always much appreciated.
Thanks so so much in advance.

Hi GlassJune,
The DWP have admitted that there is a " bug " in the automated system involving the transfer of ESA claimants to UC which causes erroneous statements such as ...." When you're ready, you'll need to look for and take any work that you can do. List jobs or sectors you're interested in"
You can just reply that the DWP medical has found you unfit for work and that you are in the ESA Support Group.

Thank you so so much David.
I have a few further questions if I may please.
I now have a “Standard identity booked” as a face to face appointment next week despite passing online identity checks. The information given on my account is purely stating the identity documents to bring.
I was to have a call to check if the information I provided was correct but
the call information is no longer on my to do list since I was booked for a f2f.
I assume the meeting is nothing to worry about in terms of being asked to search for work? Going to the meeting is complicated and immensely detrimental to my health anyway. I was so stressed / anxious and poorly in the night but this website helped so much.
Because of the “bug” I fear I’ll be asked about work commitments next week? Is this likely now I’ve messaged on my journal that my DWP medical has found me unfit for work and that I am in the ESA Support Group?
Lastly, I have to bring proof of my National Insurance number and it states to bring an official document or letter showing my National Insurance number. This can be a payslip, P45 form or National Insurance card.
I haven’t worked for so long, I dont have a payslip, P45 or the NI Card - I have lost that card years ago.
I do have however, an official HMRC letter showing my National Insurance number - I was given this online after passing identity checks. I was also thinking of bringing a PIP/ESA letter and a bank statement which shows my national insurance number also.
Even though the above mentioned aren’t the ones requested, they’re all I have. Should they suffice?
Any advice and support is so much appreciated,
Thanks so much,

Hi GlassJune,
The letter from HMRC with your National Insurance number should suffice.
If anyone at the Jobcentre starts talking to you about working all you need to say is that you have had a DWP medical and have been found unfit for work. You will remain unfit for work until you have had another medical with a different result.

Hello GlassJune,
After I read a post here of someone who unfortunately was told by UC Migration that she was not on ESA Support Group despite the fact she was, I rang ESA and asked them to send a letter.
In case I need it I will use it.
It confirms I am on esa in the Support Group.
It also has my national insurance number.
Best wishes
