PIP Tribunal Waiting Times

Hi all!

Does anyone know how long it takes before receiving a tribunal date after being declined PIP at the Mandatory Reconsideration stage?

Any chance you can elaborate upon that a little more, in terms of which type slows things down, and which speeds things up?

I'm guessing it's likely to be related to the workload each impose upon the Tribunal, so they will scamper through the ones easiest for them to do.

That could be Video, then Telephone, then in Person and then On The Papers.

But as Judges are usually quick to grasp paper based submissions, the paper based Appeal choice may be the fastest, albeit at the risk they cannot then ask questions.

I'm helping a relative with PIP loss, and I suspect this will end up at the Tribunal, so I am just getting ready for when that choice presents itself!

Many thanks, that was what I suspected may be the case.

In turn, when done on the papers, that will depend very heavily on a well crafted submission Bundle for the Tribunal.

I read the Tribunal Help document on this site, although I can see it's dated around 2020, so was written when still neck deep in the COVID thing but, in terms of urgent Appeals it lists which ones are considered.

UC loss of Benefit due to Sanctions etc at the top of the list, then PIP cames next, so we may have scope to push for a paper based Appeal fast, as the Bundle will be well done, and my relative has lost a huge chunk of a limited income. Rent Arrears are a real possibility, so there is no time to waste to put right the injustice and poor DWP Decision.

Thanks again, I think in the PIP case I am helping with, a push for an urgent paper based Appeal looks like the best option. I gather if that doesn't go our way, the single Judge doing the papers, may then call another type of Appeal, such as Telephone or perhaps video, so just a delay and then a chance to persuade the tribunal more directly.
