19yo Student with EHCP, UC/PIP Help was created by StozPIP76
Good evening, I'm hoping to get some help please.
Our 19yo son is due to start his full time Level 3 college course in Sept 24. He has just completed a transition year. He has an EHCP and receives enhanced PIP (care/mob) for which I am his appointee. He will be 21 when he finishes.
We receive UC and get the disability element and child element. We received notification that this will be stopping from Aug 24 as he is now 19 and will need to make his own claim?
Is there anything we should be doing/advising UC as to his education situation so that the payments don’t just stop?

Hi StozPIP76
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.
This can be quite a complex area, it depends on your sons date of birth. he must have been enrolled on or been accepted for the education or training before reaching 19 in order to be a qualifying young person.
We would advise you to seek help from your local welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk

It used to be that disabled students were able to claim UC whilst in education but that loophole was closed but there are ways around this. This contact.org.uk/help-for-families/informa...it-for-young-people/ explains more.
