Appeal for longer PIP award than 5 years? was created by Wolfita
Just got full PIP award!! Thank you B&W!!
24 Mobility points but fewer DL points (16) than I'm entitled to.
Award for is 5 years even though there is no prospect of anything other than deterioration. Should I do a Man Rec for a longer award?
Thank you again

Congratulations on the award, well done.
I'm afraid I can’t offer much advice about getting a longer award, we haven't seen many people do this, here on other forums, so I can't give you a realistic view of the likelihood of success, other than the DM is unlikely to extend the period so you will need to be prepared to go onto appeal.
You will need to provide medical evidence, general and specific to you, showing that your conditions are not likely to change for a period longer than the current three years, can you do this?

What is DM please?
I've had severe ME for 18 years and have been ill enough to qualify for full PIP throughout, despite having tried every available treatment, but I can't prove it.
Also, if I accept the current decision does it mean I am conceding I can, as they decided, e.g. "cook a simple meal with supervision or assistance from another person," (4pts) when in fact the truth is I absolutely categorically cannot prepare and cook food at all? (8pts). They also gave me points for things I hadnt claimed, it's bizarre.

DM - Decision Maker
I'll be honest and say that I think you are going to really struggle to make a case for a longer award if your condition is ME, it's just not a condition that is considered as incurable, whatever the reality is for sufferers.
Given the points you have scored I would not worry about any assumptions that might and I stress the might be assumed by your not challenging the Decision.

Sorry, I didn't understand that last sentence - are you advising me to leave well alone?

I'm not advising you to do anything, you have to make this decision yourself.
What I am saying is that I think the likelihood of you extending the award is low and I see no value in challenging the points you have or have not received.
