Pip awarded - Esa top up for couple claim? Please was created by Karlz
Hi all, first time poster after being a member for years, so apologies if I have done anything wrong! I have just been awarded PIP enhanced on both living and mobility (thank you to the invaluable guides on here) my question is;
I am currently on just ir ESA wrag and have a joint claim with my partner. My partner is my carer however he doesn’t get any other benefits, and he isn’t entitled to pip, are we able to claim any ESA premiums or carers allowance? I’ve heard CA is taken off you in ESA payment? Apologies for this being long, it’s just I can only find any info on if premiums if you are both entitled to PIP, and it’s just me. As I say all we currently receive is ESA wrag income related and my partner doesn’t work he’s on my claim and he looks after me. Thank you in advance

Congratulations on the award, well done.
The PIP people should tell the ESA ones about the award, but it would not hurt for you to do so as well.
As you have Enhanced Daily Living then you should now receive the couples rate of the Enhanced Disability Premium aka Disability Income Guarantee.
Any back payment should be disregarded for at least 52 weeks, again it would not hurt to ask the DWP to confirm this.
The disregard should apply to any HB you receive as well and the PIP payments are not treated as income for either ESA of HB.
Providing your wife can provide a minimum of 35 hours of care a week then she can apply for Carers Allowance, her CA will be deducted from her ESA but she will also receive an additional Carers Premium of about £35/week.

Hello,
Thank you kindly responding this website has been such an invaluable support to get me through my claims I can’t thank you enough!
Sorry just want to clarify as I’m useless at this, so we should be entitled to the enhanced disability premium couple rate (I think about £22 a week) plus I need to apply for carers allowance which should be an extra £35 in carers premium? So in total about an extra £57 a week if I’m adding this up correctly. Again thank you for your help

Yes to the CA Premium.
It will actually be the single version of the Enhanced Disability Premium I thought you were in the SG but re-reading your post I see you are in the WRAG, about £15 per week.
