Disability Premium ESA Query

I was successful in both my ESA + PIP claims following these wonderful guides. I was awarded
Support Group for ESA + Enhanced mobility + Enhanced living component for PIP - both several months ago. However, today I have received a letter showing that I will now receive a lower payment for ESA. Looking at the vague, non explanatory letter it appears they have with no warning decided to remove my Disability Premium (£61.85) p/w. I live on my own and I thought I qualified for this as in receipt of enhanced as above.

Has this premium been removed from ESA?

I wonder if anyone can throw any light on this or be kind enough to give me any advice before I ring the DWP next week.

Many thanks.

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

The premium is still going. From what you have said, as long as you are in receipt of income-related ESA, I see no reason why it should have been removed.

ESA Premiums

Be warned that the DWP call centre staff are often poorly trained. You might have to request a call back from a manager in order to speak to someone who actually understand this!

Has anyone made a claim for carers allowance as your carer?
As you can't have the disability premium if someone has put in a claim for carers allowance.

We have seen several members report problems on their transfer from DLA to PIP where, Premiums and other benefits associated with DLA have been closed because the DLA claim has ended but not then been re-added because a PIP one has started.

It's not clear why the DWP are even closing these additional benefits when the claimant has received a similar or greater PIP award, but in some cases they seem to be doing it.

I'm wondering if this has happened to you.

Thank you to you all for your helpful replies. I have today received a form saying I may be able to get "extra money" - severe disability premiums. It is madness considering I have been in receipt of this for years - both with my previous ESA and have been receiving it for the last 3 months with my new ESA award. So on Tuesday when my ESA fortnightly payment is due I will receive £123.85 less than normal. I do not have a carer, nor has anyone recently applied.

I have ticked the boxes in today's letter of living on my own etc and sent it back obtaining proof of posting. I hope they will back pay the premium while it s re-instated. I will still follow it up with a phone call next week.

I just find it very odd and wonder why this has happened. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had similar.

Many thanks.
