DLA Success Without Medical!

I have been a member on a couple of occasions originally to help defend my wife's IB. In December last year I finally decided to apply for DLA having been on IB for at least eight years as a result of generalised osteoarthritis and various conditions under that heading. I got a reply quite quickly with a blanket refusal saying they had read my application and referred to one of my consultants (Pain Clinic). Having read their refusal notes I decided to appeal and concentrate on the Mobility Component. I explained that my GP was more aware of my mobility limitations, having recently helped me to get a Blue Badge, and in the mean time I did a resume for my GP giving him all the necessary information in chronological order which he greatly appreciated.

Yesterday I received a letter from the DWP awarding me the Higher Rate Mobility and Lower Rate Care back dated to December. The decision letter was dated 14/05/2013. Today I got a further letter apologising for the delay in making a decision date the 04/05/2013!

It will be reviewed in December 2014 but it is a very welcome surprise so thank you to everyone at Benefits and Work for all your hard work and the excellent resources and advice you provide for your members.
