Yesterday morning brought one of the dreaded brown envelopes, but instead of an appointment for a medical there was a letter saying 'you have got into the support group without needing a medical assessment'. I was incoherent for ten minutes and had to get one of my carers to read it back to me to make sure I'd read it correctly.
Once I'm a bit more compos mentis I'll ask them for an ESA85A to ascertain the length of the award.
Also, does anyone know if you have to inform the Housing Benefit people of the change over, I've been given both Contributions Based and Income Related ESA, so I should be covered for the 'passport' benefits of Housing Benefit, prescriptions, eye test etc, but have no idea if the DWP tell them of the award or not. I know they're fast enough to tell them to stop paying housing benefit if you fail, but don't know the procedure if you pass.
Once again thank you from the bottom of my heart

Many thanks and profound gratitude to the Moderators, Guides writers and compilers at B&W for all their wonderful help.

Hi Pen,
Great news !!
As you have been placed into The SG, and are entitled to CB ESA and IR ESA, the DWP should inform the HB and CTB department for you, without you having to take any further action.
Of course, in these times, you could always send copy of your SG award letter to the HB & CTB Departments at your Local Council.
