Indefinite awards (formerly called life awards) can be reviewed at any time under what's called Right Payment Programme

No doubt you're aware that in 2013/2014, if the legislation is passed by Parliament, DLA will be replaced with a new benefit called Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

If that happens, then those over 65 years of age, will not be eligible to claim PIP, which like DLA has a mobility and care component, and will instead if they have care needs, have to apply for Attendance Allowance which has no mobility component.

This means that tens of thousands of DLA claimants over 65 would not be entitled to claim PIP and like myself that would mean that they would no longer be entitled to use their current HRM component of DLA to purchase or lease a car through the Motability scheme.

I am currently working with my MP to have these proposals in the Welfare Reform Bill, to be changed to give transitional protection for those over 65 years of age to be able to claim PIP for both mobility and care.

If any members are worried about these proposals, I urge then to contact their MP.

I am currently awaiting for a reply from my MP, Tim Farron Lib Dem President who has written to Maria Miller, Minister for Disabled to explain what their plans are for migrating DLA claimants to PIP, and to seek assurances that those over 65 years of age currently in receipt of DLA HRM will not lose out.

I will of course keep members updated on developments..

Hello Jim,

Yes I am aware that 'indefinite' does not mean never and that there are changes on the horizon. I have already contacted my M.P. to ask for his opinion but his answer was vague. Until exactly what is going to happen is known there is little that we can do except to remain aware. I will, of course, remain a member of B&W and am grateful to the people who fight for those of us who need these benefits.

Please can anyone tell me how to get a home medical. We are housebound as I am unable to lift my husbands wheelchair. He has lost a leg and is wheeelchair bound. He has only been offered lower rate DLA though higher rate mobility. He had a heart attack 2 years ago on the operating table and has brain damage from lack of oxygen for 20 minutes. I am fed up of fighting all the time. He needs 24 hour care as he is a risk to himself. 'THEY' say he needs 1 hour of care a day - if only.
