Subscribing was the best thing I could have done! was created by Valbb
I have been claiming ESA for almost 3 years now with not much hope of getting better anytime soon. Previously I was on the work related group then earlier this year they placed me in the support group for a year, which I thought was a result as I didnt have to go to any more medicals.
I'm a single mum of three and have always worked until being taken ill. My condition is worsening and the financial strain of not working on top of the pain was truly getting me down. I came across this group whilst looking for some advice and thought maybe I should try claiming DLA. With my limited income, the thought of paying the subscription was a hard one to come to terms with but I had to look at the bigger picture.
Completed the claim form online over a few days continually referring to your advice. Form was sent off third week in May. As suggested, I made sure that I saw my GP to remind him of how my condition was affecting me and forewarned him that he would be contacted.
I was due to attend a medical two weeks ago and 3 days before, received a phone call saying that I didn't need to go.
Then received two follow up letters saying that they were still looking into my claim.
This morning I received the familiar looking envelope and tentatively opened it, only to be advised that I have been awarded the higher rate in care AND mobility for the next two years!!!
This far exceeded anything I could have hoped for as I'd already geared myself up to having to take my case to appeal - no need now. It's taken just 2 months to get my award, which will be backdated to May.
Thank you so much for your advice and guidance. You made me really think about how my condition affects me on a day to day basis and put it down clearly, rather than hoping that the reader of the form would 'understand' how I'm truly affected. If anyone is thinking twice about whether or not they should pay for the use of the tools on this site, I am an example that sometimes you've got to speculate to accumulate
Doesn't stop the pain I'm in but will at least go towards making my life a bit more comfortable.

Thanks!! Hopefully I won't need to be claiming for two years but at least it will give me some breathing space as the financial stress was NOT helping.
