GL24 form

I am completing a GL24 form to make an appeal. I know this is going to sound a trivial question, but thought I should just check...
On section 8 on the form - 'Reasons' - it says:

"Use this space to say why you disagree with the decision. You must say why you think the decision is wrong. Use BLOCK CAPITALS."

I intend to ask my carer to write quite alot. As it is harder to write a lot in block capitals than normal writing do you think it is acceptable to write in lower case if it is legible, or alternativly, type ones response (normal lower case) on seperate sheet? If you don't do it in Block capitals could it be rejected?!

In all honesty I have never noticed or taken notice of this instruction.

Obviously DWP decision makers have great difficulty reading but the last time I appealed I typed several pages of A4 and did not think of typing it all out in block capitals. And I doubt a tribunal judge would have been too pleased to have read pages of block capitals.

I doubt it will make any difference and if the DWP do not revise their decision they are duty bound to pass the case to appeal; there is nothing in law that states that an appeal is not valid if it is in sentence case!

I would write "See attached sheet" and have your reasons TYPED (or printed from your computer). That way you can take as much space as you want, rather than try to squeeze your statement into a tiny box.

I think the issue is about legibility, so typewritten/printed stuff should be fine. Even good legible hand-writing ought to be OK unless you fall foul of some complete idiot at DWP.

I actually dispensed with the GL24 and word-processed everything on A4 paper in normal text. There was no comeback.

Plus it's nice and easy to keep a copy!

The DWP will usually accept notice of appeal in the form of a letter but they are not legally required to unless it's on the correct GL24 form, so it's probably safest to use the GL24 form if possible, with added sheets.
