Support group descriptor

11. Initiating and completing personal action (which means planning, organisation,
problem solving, prioritising or switching tasks).Cannot, due to impaired mental function, reliably initiate or complete at least 2 sequential personal actions.

With reference to above. IF you are unable to complete the above without supervision or assistance should this make you eligible for the Support Group of ESA?

IMO and I am no expert you would need lots of evidance to get the above agreed ... 2 actions are not many

there is plenty of evidence available in this instance

however, we all know that means nothing to the DWP !!

The majority of descriptors including the one mentioned above require the claimant to manage the activity without assistance.

The problem with this activity is, what is a sequential personal action?

The DWP look no further than washing and dressing but we've yet to see if tribunals will apply the descriptor more broadly.

"plenty of eveidance" ? but is it the right stuff ? playing devils advocate.. not a mod or expert I would look for stuff from psychologist who has carried out testing then an assement by a psychiatrist who has made the diag of
impaired mental function, with added evidance back to the original cause

the main thing to bare in mind they have set the goal post very high as they say in the regs 2 steps ... which means the
impaired mental function is very bad
anyone posting and reading here did more than two
2 steps is put shoe on and tie the laces IMO of course

very important Note the descriptor states that the activity must be RELIABLY ......

So if a lot of the time, or even not a 'lot' but 'much' of the time, you cannot initiate the sequential actions... you may get it

The ludicrousness of getting washed and dressed being enough drives me to despair

The descriptor requires that the claimant cannot manage at least 2 'sequential actions'

So, if a person completes washing and dressing on 'auto pilot ' in the morning and then the whole day cannot complete many sequential actions due to OCD rituals or overwhelming depressive apathy and fatigue etc ... they WOULD qaulify

Also what is mean't by 2 sequential actions. Does it mean 2 actions in which there is a sequence, or ONE action containing a sequence of 2 steps

There is a subtle difference, but also RELIABLY is a key term here
