Can anyone tell me how someone, when making their first application for JSA, can be awarder £137.60 a week?
This is a 19yr old man with ADHD. His mother receives DLA middle rate care for him despite informing the DLA people that he no longer lives with her but with his father.
The letter awarding him JSA has been sent to his mother and gives the following breakdown of how the money is made up:
£53.45 - living expenses
£28.85 - extra money because you are disabled
££55.30 - extra money because you are severely disabled
His mother (my sister) was not present when he made his claim and this is her first contact regarding his claim.
JSA, like ESA, is made up of a basic amount plus premiums.
The premiums take into account what rates of DLA are paid.
If he does not want his mother to get his DLA, perhaps his father or a friend could help him to get the DLA himself or get his father or a friend made the appointee so that they can get it for him.
So does DLA middle rate care alone qualify him for all that extra on top of the £53.45 basic amount?
Its his mother who no longer wants to be his appointee, he's happy for her to be.
She contacted DLA this afternoon and said she no longer believed he needed an appointee and she wanted to stop the claim and was told "well its up for renewal in November, it will be a lot of hassle to change it now" and advised her to keep claiming it until November
