DLA Process

Hello,

I applied for DLA and supplied a Consultants' letter and 2 senior physiotherapy therapy reports dated within the last 12 months.

DWP replied quickly to say they were writing to the Senior Physiotherapist for another report.

Two weeks later a second letter arrived to say that they have now decided to also ask my GP for a report.

Even though the Specialists letters were all dated in the last 12 months they still wanted another report from one of them, and it appears that on receipt of that report they decided to ask my GP for his view too.

I know they can obviously do what they see fit and must cover all angles but is this the usual way they deal with things currently, does anyone have any recent experience similar to this? I should just say that my condition is variously noted as 'degenerative' and 'chronic'.

We've had people on here before saying the DWP has done this, so yours is not a one-off case.

In practical terms, I can't think that it can do anything except delay the decision since you have supplied evidence from various professionals, so if your GP confirms that your condition is getting worse not better, the DM will be able to use the evidence you have supplied.

It may sound cynical, but I have long since ceased to be surprised by what DMs do or don't ask for in the way of evidence.

IMO some people and the DWP dont have the monopoly on this write reports that rise more questions than they answer, also having looked at the links on this web site to forms sent by the DWP to drs the type of questions they ask dont often get answered in normal drs letters and reports

the good news is you have not been turned down they are at least at this stage still asking questions to help them make a decsion

Hi all,

I have read quite a few peoples experiences, here on this site, regrading their applications for DLA etc and I am wondering why, in my case, the DWP chose to write to my GP after getting the Physio report rather than arranging for an ATOS doc to check me over?

I thought that the DWP quite often dont like a GPs view as its sometimes biased?

Any thoughts anyone?
