So far as I am aware, losing MRC would not affect SDA.
However, I wonder whether you mean not severe disablement allowance but severe disability premium? If so, a reduction from MRC to LRC will indeed mean that you don't get a SDP.
You could appeal, but do be aware that if you appeal, your entitlement to HRM can be reviewed by the DWP at the same time, so it is only "safe" to challenge the LRC if you feel confident that you will keep your HRM.
You will find more guidance on this in our guide to DLA appeals in the Help for Claimants section.

Hello
The same thing happened to me last year, they dropped me from medium to low rate care but gave me this and high rate mobility indefinitly. This would mean I would lose my SDP. I felt they had dangled the (indefinitly) infront of me like a carrot in the hope I would'nt want to rock the boat. This annoyed me so I decided to take the chance and appealed. Luckily the tribunal found in my favour.
Hope you get the same result if you do decide to appeal.
Kind regards
Sue

its says on the understanding employment service allowance.
that claimants who do not have a review date, for example because they are exempt from the personal capability assessment will be assessed in the first 12 month of the conversion process.
severe disability allowance (SDA) claimants are LIKELY to be converted last.
