DLA Tribunal - What happens was created by Jo
Hi everyone
I just wondered if anyone could give me an idea of what happens in a DLA Tribunal please?

I have finally got my date and I feel like I am going into the lions den because I have no idea what to expect, I am not too hopeful and the worry is making my condition worse so any hints/tips or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi I had a dla tribunal in 2000. You sit in front of a panel of 3-4 people and they ask what rate care and mobility you think you should be awarded. Then they ask you questions about your illness and how it affects you day to day all day. Night time as well. If you can, take someone with you you'll need the support. I wish you lots of luck and hope you win. :)

Hi,

There's very detailed guides to DLA tribunals in the members area which tell you how to prepare, what to wear, how to address the panel, the kind of questions you'll be asked, etc.

Good luck,

Steve

Thanks
I have printed off the relevant docs from here but I have ME which makes it really hard for me to concentrate reading for very long so I just wondered if anyone had any additional insights.

Kind Regards

Hi Jo'
I too have ME and had to go to a tribunal for DLA.
I was really anxious for months before hand and this like you was obviously making my condition worse.
I wish I had known before how the tribunal was going to be because I came out thinking that wasnt too bad, I had made it far more scary than it was.
The three panel members (including the DR) made me feel as comfortable as possible and I felt from the start that they seemed on side, I didnt feel they were trying to trip me up, they just asked me how a normal day affected me. I told them how it varied from day to day and even hour to hour. They asked about the help I needed during the day and that was about it. I wasnt in with them long and was asked to wait outside for about 10 mins. Called back in to get the good news.
I hope you find it the same as me and get the right result at the end of it.
Kind regards
Sue

Oh thanks Sue, that is just the sort of info I was looking for.
I have waited months for this and the worry is making my condition worse, I just keep thinking I am going to make an utter fool of myself in the tribunal by getting totally brain fogged (you will know how that feels)and if I fail I don't think I have the energy to go through it all again.

Kind Regards
Jo
