DLA triumph.... was created by John
Well I have posted a lot for myself on here but not for my wife, I have just got on with the knowledge I have picked up here.
Story is that upto a year ago she worked and cared for youngsters with disabilities and special needs and loved her job. She has had pretty bad sciatica for mnay years, last year she was also diagnosed with a rare illness forestier's disease which gives her chronic thoracic pain almost constantly and eventually had to leave work. She has recently been diagnosed also with Fybromyalgia and this has knocked her for six to say the least. She has gone from a full time working mum also looking after a family to not being able to much for herself at the moment.
We applied for DLA back in november and was given a decision at xmas saying no award for either. This was based on a pretty lame medical services "standard" statement. A consultants confirmation of conditions but no disiabilities etc were really discussed with him so he could not write anything about her actual needs.
I decided a month or so ago to call and speak to the DM and question why my wifes gp was not consulted and why she had not had a medical. The lady was very nice, listened to me and said she would indeed do as I requested and seek further information from her gp and also arrange an "independent" medical. The dr who came for the medical was different than my 3 medicals, she was very professional, very understanding, I would not say she was on our side or the DWP side but was just interested in extracting as many facts as she could do and seemed to spend more time than the others have done.
Today I have called DWP for a copy of the medical report which they will send and also the lady said they made a reconsideration yesterday and awarded my wife HRM and HRC which is what we had hoped for. To say I am happy is an understatement.
Another member Margaux posted a similar experience yesterday and good result from a reconsideration.
I hope this gives others something to think about over the weekend. It is worth sticking in there, use all the info possible from the website and great moderators we have here as well as the pros behind the scenes. It shows to me if you can actually get the right evidence in front of the DM then you can get the right result. I have need to speak to 2 DM's and have to say both have doen as asked, phoned back when they have said etc and I cannot actually fault anything "other than initial decision" with them.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
