Got ESA - should I apply for DLA? was created by jkw10
Hi everyone,

I won my appeal for ESA last week (thank God!) and was put in the support group.

My CAB advisor wants me to apply for DLA on the basis that I rely on my Mum for a cooked meal everyday. I can wash and dress myself although often feel too exhausted to do either. I don't think I would be eligible for any mobility component.

My concern is would I have to go through another WCA? I have ME/CFS but won my appeal on an exemption due to having depression with suicidal feelings so didn't win on any physical descriptors.

I'm so relieved to win my appeal that I feel very reluctant to open another can of worms, particularly if this involved the stress of more WCAs.

From reading a few posts on this forum, I get the impression that failing a WCA for one benefit can impact your claim for another.

Thanks,
J

We are unable to give personal advice. See here .

You may well be examined as a result of a DLA application, but it will be different from the ESA one suffered.

Applying for DLA should not have any impact on your ESA claim.

Would it not impact if they gather evidance for DLA and then decide its different and discounts the ESA claim too and they play silly buggers ? I thought people had esa or dla medicals and the other as stopped ?

We have had cases where ESA medicals have caused the re-assessment of a DLA claim, I'm not sure I have seen it happen the other way around.

There are only limited areas, such as walking and continence where there is a direct overlap, which don't appear to be relevent in this case.
