self employment is not ab otu whether or not you make a profit, its asbout trading activity and a profit motive. he DWP wont be at all excited if a self running webpage made no money. I cannot see how you 'worked' if you dont actually make money or do anything during the relevant period, but its probably best that these optomictic if unsuccessful enterprises are declared, both for tax and benefits, after getting proper advice of course

Thanks Survivor - I literally have barely looked at the site - I'm ashamed to admit I don't even know how it works as I've just never been well enough to do anything with it - but as it's automated it's just been running along by itself.
I'm going to query it with my accountant - to me 'work' means actively working so as all I have done is bought a website I really didn't think it would qualify as 'work', if it had I would probably have never bought the site in the first place as it was only the fact it was fully automated that made me think I would be able to manage it at the time anyway. As it stands I haven't even managed to be well enough to do the tax or record keeping part of it, which is why I have ended up in this mess.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Everyone
I did contact Business Link last month but they said that as I'd just bought the website as an existing already set up site rather than starting it myself they could only help me if I wanted to set up a new business from scratch.
They seem to be more for start ups and business plan advice than for things already up and running.
I will have a go at those online tests.
Thanks again
