Carers Allowance was created by angelstar59
I have been told that if I let my daughter claim carer's allowance I will loose money myself on the benefits I recieve. I get income support, dla high mob/med care, and housing/council tax benefit. (for now - it can all change!) At present she has had to cut her hours as i need more support. confused as to why I should loose any money. Would I be better off paying her myself?

If you get a severe disability premium, you will lose it if anyone claims carers allowance for looking after you. You will also lose it if anyone eighteen or over is part of your household.

Severe Disability Premium is paid as an addition to DLA, if you get it, it will be listed on the annual statement you get from the DWP.i have three girls all 18+ how do you find out if you get this premium and which benefit is it on?

It's part of the income support. Look at the last letter you got from the DWP explaining how your benefit was calculated.
However, since you have daughters over eighteen living with you, then this premium won't apply to you, unless the DWP doesn't have full information about who lives with you.
I can't think of any other aspect of IS or DLA that carer's allowance could affect. Assuming you get full HB and CTB on the basis of IS entitlement, they shouldn't be affected either. Do ensure in relation to all benefits that the DWP and local authority knows who lives with you, their ages and their relationship to you.
