Why is it that every single time I have mentioned to my GP and CPN they just keep telling me to stop worrying as I will be ok ? Im being told that I have nothing to worry about by them and that they will support me in any appeal and yet on here its full of horror stories about medicals etc ? Im so confused by it all. Why are GPs and other support agencies not aware of all of this ?

My GP also says that. He says that what he says will override what "they" say. I think he's just too used to the old system and just too busy keeping up with all the ongoing changes in medicine and the NHS to keep up with this as well. Don't forget that the PCTs are going to be dismantled shortly - that will be uppermost in most GPs' minds.

I'm getting into a bad state over all of this. I have been given diazepam because im worrying so much. I want to stay informed but by staying informed its making me ill, so its hard to know what to do. Im sure lots of others are exactly the same.

It is just good old fashioned reassurance, although clearly they are not listening to your fears.
I had a chat with several CPNS yesterday and they were well aware of what is happening.
However there is little they can do. They were frustrated too.
They can only offer support – they cant change the system. But they can listen. Perhaps they are correct and you will be ok? They know your personal circumstances.
And whilst the changes are still in flux – they are also still waiting to see what happens.
It is of little comfort when you are clearly so distressed.

I don't think the 'work is good for you' agenda is helping - demonstrated by the shift from sick-notes to fit notes and millions of pounds being spent on CBT for 'work-aged people', with a clear emphasis on keeping or getting people into work.

There is too much emphasis on work, with terms like 'worklessness' being banded about all over the place. I find the term offensive, with people not well enough to work left feeling 'worthless'.

(Even hospital wards are being referred to as 'wards for work-age people' for goodness sake!)

GPs and mental health teams need to show real understanding of the enormous barriers some people face when it comes to coping with work environments, alonside the difficulties of actually securing sustainable employment.

Without that understanding and full support when it comes to ensuring continuity of benefits, i worry trust and respect will break down and is the last thing vulnerable patients need.

The medical profession needs to recognise their patients are really frightened by what is going on.

It isn't easy but i would second the advice of trying not to worry too much, whilst letting the people who you rely on for support know just how concerned you are.
