Esa appeals and prescriptions was created by micksville
I wonder if any members have come across this issue. I am due for transfer in March as are many and the worst case scenario I expect will be possibly being failed and told to claim JSA or appeal. I will of course appeal and will have to claim ESA at the reduced assesment rate in the interim.
At my GP's this morning I noticed on the prescription form in the pharmacy that you are exempt only if on Income related JSA or ESA.( I curently get Income support premiums so do not pay for my medication). Would anyone claiming reduced ESA at the assesment phase rate have to pay for prescriptions. I have to have three items and one, warfarin in absolutely vital for obvious reasons. How would this work?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Although it does explicitly state that a claimant has to be in receipt of income-based ESA to automatically qualify for health benefit exemptions, which includes free prescriptions, it would be possible to qualify under the NHS low income scheme which is detailed HERE.

Thanks CD It may not be an issue yet but I'm preparing for all eventualities
