HOW DO THEY KNOW

Hi, I have seen many posts on here about people reporting other people who are on dla to the authorties believing they are not entitled. Unless you tell people you are on a benefit such as DLA how do they know you are getting it?.....Thanks

If you appear to have a disability, I reckon some people may assume that you are claiming DLA. We don't know how many allegations they receive against people who are not even claiming DLA!

people think they know, but without all the facts its just a guess

Some that are in the paper about court cases are easy to see why people think they are a cheat bed bound woman puts pictures of herself scuba diving off the side of a boat she is sailing

but them high profile cases are rare
(apart from refs in wales)

most i think are down to people not knowing the real facts, or just telling stories because they are upset by all sorts of things

Nor do we know if the people even exist in the first place.

Would not put it paste a government to do a bit of spin doctoring and put out fake stories/posts online to stir up trouble.

Thanks Derek, I often wonder who exactly has the LEGAL right to know you are on such benefits. i.e. can any person ring them up and ask is so and so on DLA?

Off the top of my head, only the DLA unit, DWP and Government agencies can share personal information regarding DLA claims. Disclosing such information to members of the public or other unauthorised people would be a breach of confidentiality and unlawful.
