Due an ESA medical what can I expect? was created by princess1
Can anyone advise me, never been in this situation before. Have worked all my life since I was 14, after a long journey have recently been diagnosed with an inflammatory arthritis called psoiratic athritis in addition, at age of 17 had a disc prolapse with a 1 1/2 inch leg difference as a consequence and continuous lower back pain with oesteoathritis as a reult. Ankles have very inflamed achilles tendons due to psoiratic arthritis can't get shoes on most days, writs hands and left elbow now affected, in constant pain day and night esa form returned , signed oof work until end jan next year, am due an redeployment works assessment through NHS employer , was cancelled due to weather, now esa , ATOS are asking me to attend 14th Dec. doesn't the current employer NHS mediccal be acceptable to ATOS ? why do I need 2 medicals ? this has taken since Feb. this year to diagnos my problem and I feel I'm being penalised by such uncaring individuals.
can anyone advise ? many thks.

Hi
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but like you I have worked all my life, was a manager with royal mail then September last year I took a Bell's Palsy in my face and was admitted to hospital, was in there for 6 weeks, lot of tests etc.
Now forward 6 months to March of this year I was to have a medical through my work IE Royal Mail (government) with ATOS and was told I was not fit to do my light computer job at the PO..
Was pensioned of,now four weeks later I was to attend an ESA medical by ATOS again.
Was told I was fit for work, now work that one out!!
I have appealed and should get it April at the earliest a year of a wait.
I have been diagnosed with a rare form of lupus, neurolupus that attacks the nervous system, can hardly walk most days and on that much medication it would surprise you.
The whole system is corrupted, don't let them grind you down cause thats what they want for you to dissappear and not bother them...
Keep on fighting,hope this helps.

I am afraid the medical is mandatory. It does not review your disabilities, instead it concentrates on your capabilities in the context of you working.

It is important that you get your head around this different approach as it often makes the difference in your passing or not.

You should look at the "Understanding ESA", "ESA Claims on Physical Grounds" and if appropriate "ESA Claims on Mental Grounds", all of which can be found in the ESA section of the Members area.

If you have any further questions please come back to the forum.

Hi again , what I can't understand is the redeployment assessment through current employer NHS , which was plannedfor today but cancelled due to weather conditions, cannot be used for the ATOS request. Also NHS appear to be keen to redeploy so am not currently out of work? I cannot get my head around this ? any ideas ? ta!

the people you work for and not just the NHS have different rules for finishing you off from work than the DWP and ESA has different rules than DLA even people who have worked for the DWP and have been retired sick fail to get 15 points when they apply for ESA :)

I ont think there is anyhting wrong with the NHS or any other company trying to redeploy people rather than just pay them off, if its a real job and not just an excuse to not pay out a pension.

I can only repeat my previous post, your NHS medical is focussed on why you are unable to work, whereas the ATOS medical if focussed on showing that you can. The criteria used are very differet.

I am assuming the you have already completed and returned an ESA50 form, however, it may still be possible to include the results of your NHS medical as evidence to be considered.

Please review the ESA documents I mentioned previously as these will help you undersatnd what ATOS will be looking for in the medical.
