Hi,
It sounds like they are doing a reconsideration (which is part of the appeal process anyway). Did you send in a Form GL24 to ask for an appeal tribunal or just asked them to reconsider the claim?
Either way, once it hass been reconsidered you can still go onto appeal if still not satisfied with the outcome of the reconsideration, but send in a GL24 form, downloadable here:

Sadly it is more or less impossible to state how long both the reconsideration and/or appeal will take. As per the letter which is pretty standard if you havent heard anything in eleven weeks then ring them to chase it up.
Also if going to an appeal tribunal, it is best to obtain some face to face advice from Welfare Rights or CAB etc.

My friend has hers on the 16th by which time she will have been waiting 17 months.
Can highly recommend the CAB.
