GP contacted before ESA medical? was created by keddi
Does anyone know if my GP is likely to be contacted before my ESA medical in a few weeks?
This happened when I applied for DLA and it wasn't my GP who filled in the form but another doctor who I had never seen (this being the policy of the doctor's surgery to allocate all such requests to one doctor). He then looked through my notes and made some assumptions like yes I am ok to do this, no problems with that etc. I had appeal and get my own GP to refute all that he had written. I'm worried the same thing will happen again.

Hi Keddi
I'm not sure what the formal policy is, but my GP was not contacted before my ESA medical.
If you are worried, maybe it's worth saying this to your GP and asking him to update your notes to reflect your situation, so that, if need be, his/her colleague can give an accurate report on you first time?
Hope it all goes smoothly for you,
regards

Hi Keddi
The DWP sometimes sends an ESA113 form to a doctor if they think it may not be necessary to send you a medical form. You can see what the form looks like on the link below.

The questions appear to be related to the support group.

thanks for that. Should I assume then if I have already filled in the medical form and have a medical date set that they won't send this form to my GP?

Hi Keddi, my GP wasn't contacted at all, but I don't claim DLA so I don't know if it would be different for you. Best of luck,
Rachel

I would imagine that if they decided to send your GP the form, they would already have done so before sending you the medical form. There is no harm in looking at your GP records to see if an ESA113 has been completed and what it says.
