Relief - ESA into Work Related Group was created by mermaid
Just to say thank you for help especially with the guides for ESA as I have just heard today that I got into the Work Related Group.

I have ME/CFS and had heard of so many failures so using your guides, and an excellent letter from my consultant sent with the completed medical form, I feel sure made all the difference.

I also mentioned to the person doing my medical that I was very worried about the fact that my condition would not be taken seriously, but I had heard that fluctuating conditions like mine were now understood by the DWP. She agreed that this was true.

I wish it were true for everyone though as clearly many are still struggling to be "heard".

Hi Mermaid

Congratulations on passing your medical. It's about time ME/CFS is taken seriously.

Best wishes

Derek

Confused again, what is the work related group? What for those who can't work? Where do they go?

And what is the premium for this?

If in the Work Related Group, does it mean that if you can work only one hour a week, this is covers you?

Sorry and sorry again, am totally confused.

Thanks

If you apply for ESA, there are three possible outcomes.

The first is that you are found fit for work and don't get ESA.

The second is that you are placed in the Support Group. In this group, you are not expected to engage in any activity and you get a bit of extra money on top of the basic ESA.

The third possibility is that you are in the Work Related group. In this group, you get less money than the support group, and you can be expected to engage in work related activity. This might be learning how to write a CV, for example. You're not expected to actually look for work unless you want to.

If you look on the homepage, halfway down on the right is a test you can do to see if you'd be likely to get ESA, and if so, which group you'd be likely to be in.

I am so pleased for you Mermaid. I would like to think that the medical types take CFS/ME seriously, but I don't see much manifestation of this attitude!
Hopefully now that your stress can be diminished a little...your health and well being will reflect this.
Kind Regards,
A fellow sufferer.
