Can anyone help me with regards to eligibility for the above?

The DirectGov website states the following:-
"If you are single, you may get the lower rate premium if you live alone, no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you and you get the middle or highest care component of Disability Living Allowance".

Is one eligible if all apply apart from living alone?

Do you meet the criteria to claim the Severe Disability premium as a couple?
Couples (higher rate)

If you have a partner, you may get the higher rate premium if no one else lives with you, no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you and either:

* you both get the middle or highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance; or
* you get the middle or highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance and your partner gets Attendance Allowance

Couples (lower rate)

If you have a partner, you may get the lower rate premium if no one else lives with you and either:

* you both get the middle or highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance, and Carer's Allowance is paid for only one of you; or
* you get the middle or highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance and your partner gets Attendance Allowance, and Carer's Allowance is paid for only one of you; or
* you get the middle or highest rate of Disability Living Allowance care component and your partner is registered blind, and no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you.

Hi Ranald

Thank you for replying to my post and providing information with regards to SDP for couples. The information I need is regarding single people who live at home with their carer. The carer is not eligible for carers allowance on account that their part time salary is marginally above the £100 week one can earn whilst claiming carers allowance. In other words the only difference to the following is that the single person does not live alone.

"If you are single, you may get the lower rate premium if you live alone, no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you and you get the middle or highest care component of Disability Living Allowance".

Many thanks

Kaz

Are you not classified as flatmates then if the person you live with is not your partner?
I am sure if that is the case and you could prove it you would be eligible for the Severe Disability premium.

Sorry Ranald, I have been deliberately keeping my questions general as I am mindful that we cannot ask for individual advice specific to our circumstances. My son who has just been awarded MRC and LRM lives at home with me. Having worked full-time all my life, when my son became ill last year I reduced my hours to take care of him. I cannot claim carers allowance as my part time salary is marginally above the £100 week allowance. I was hoping that their might be SDP information in our claim guides that one of members or moderators could direct me to.

Once again, many thanks for responding to my post.
