I probably do not want to know the answer to this question but here goes, if we are all going on to ESA next year and then to be given Medicals why are some people going to medicals now?

I suspect you are claiming Incapacity Benefit. I am sure a moderator will confirm this:-

Anyone currently claiming IB will be examined on the due date whether it be twelve months or whatever period was decided at the time of the award and following further medicals. Due to pressures on the system many people have not been examined on the due date. I have been waiting for eight months!

The shift from IB to ESA will not start until October 2010 and this will be a trial in a limited number of areas.

The full scale shift to ESA will not start until next year and will take at least two years to complete. If you reach retirement age within the period of transfer then you will not be examined again.

Hope this helps.

Just speaking for myself, my IB was last renewed in 2005 for five years, so it was due for normal review in 2010. Therefore I wasn't fazed by the fact it came up (though I'd have loved to have been forgotten about!)

I fully expect to have a medical, but I only delivered my completed IB50 last week. I admit to being thoroughly scared by the whole thing.

My IB was up for renewal December 2009,i received IB 50 about 7 weeks ago. I wasn't called in for a medical and passed the IB test. I'm next up for renewal in 2013, strange as I will receive my state pension next spring.
Good luck!!!

For me I am a new claimant and because of pre-existing conditions they put me straight onto ESA. My medical assessment is just one week away now and I too am extremely concerned about it.

Not because I think I may fail, but because of the untruths that are likely to arise from it.

I can hear it now...."Oh just because he has RA and OA, had a major spine operation a few years ago - and he is full of rods and screws, is no excuse not to work. Fine he cannot move his shoulders, nor can he flex from the waist, oh yes, I note he cannot sit in a hard chair for more than 5 minutes without pain, but he can walk and there is little wrong with him from the elbows to his fingertips, well, OK he can't use his thumbs & of course he has bowel problems hence his two yearly colonoscopy, but hey-what, he is bound to be able to do some work!"

So find me a job I can do then you muppets!
