Thank you all for being so supportive. It means a lot to me knowing I am not alone with this, but to think that so many people are put through this, by a government who say they care (laughable), is very worrying. Perhaps all those people who are capable of at least telling their story, should get together and take this to the court of Human Rights. Someone has got to put a stop to the victimization of those with disabilities, and some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Most of us can think for ourselves and express our needs in an intelligent and coherent way, The distress caused by Dickension rules and regulations to those in need of support has got to be addressed.
Update so far... I wrote to my MP as well as contacting the Legal Advice Service. My MP still hasn't responded, even though I got an automatic response (wondering if he is squirming, knowing his Labour government were the people who put those with Mental Health issues in this position in the first place). The legal advice service want me to fill in a lot of forms for legal aid, and I really just want some advice at this stage, so I will try to get someone to contact my local Welfare Rights for me, as I don't think I can just write to them or send an email.
I will still have to go through the medical assessment again. Let's just hope I don't have to, yet again, go through the ringer of their lack of communication between departments and with doctors, and the battle of getting them to actually listen and take note, that I can not leave the house. I may yet again have to take it to appeal. I haven't been sleeping and have had a number of panic attacks because of it all. Sadly, I have no choice but to go through it all again *sigh*. My husband contacted ATOS last week and had to ask my doctor if he would send a fax to ATOS regarding me getting a visit at home, so I am just waiting for the appointment date to come through... He did ask ATOS why I was being put through it all again, and the lady apparently was very nice (doesn't take away the stress though), and said that the DWP insist they carry out all their tests and reaffirm everything annually. The stress of it all does make people's conditions worse. As if it isn't enough that we struggle to get through each day. I feel for your husband Kathy, and the many many others who are put through all this.
One day, I WILL get better, and I WILL be one of the people putting up a fight for those people, like myself currently, who are put through this hell because of the governments insistence that we are all claiming fraudulently!!! Anyone who claims ESA (I have never claimed anything else, so I don't know the processes, but I imagine it is the same for most disability benefits) will know how it is impossible to fake anything. It infuriates me when our government leaders throw around comments such as 'spongers'.
I will follow up at each stage, in the hope that my experience will at least help someone else.
Hugs to you all
