Hello everyone, a friend of mine is getting incapacity benefit and higher DLA,she has now received demands for for 6years council tax,not the full amounts but unexplainable amounts.
My question is,is she liable for council tax if she is in receipt on Incapacity benefit & Higher DLA? she has no savings ect.
Thank you best wishes Condor.

Council tax isn't one of the benefits we cover on these forums but this website gives information on it.

As moderators our knowledge is confined to benefits paid for incapacity and disability, not means-tested benefits.

This link may help Council Tax - who pays and how much

However being in receipt of DLA & IB doesn't automatically exempt a claimant from paying Council Tax, but they'll probably qualify for Council Tax Benefit, if that's their only income.

Your friend needs to speak to the Council Tax section of her local council, as only they can provide a definitive explanation on the demands she's received.

Hello,

I have had many a battle over council tax payments, it is a complicated system and mistakes can be made but my advice to you is to make an appointment with the cab for help. Good luck.

You could ask the relevant council department if they would provide a breakdown of the CT payments for the years concerned that they are trying to recover.
