An advantage using the form that you can fill out on the screen then print off is that it saves you writing it out by hand and as you get to the end of the boxes it automatically makes the type smaller so that what you write fits into the box (up to a limit of course).

Yeah, I can understand the lack of investment, I don't think many people used it. I've used it twice before and it was always fine for me, I also made sure I printed it out before I submitted it. But I would much prefer now to fill in the new one, so I'll do that instead.
Thanks

I'm still a tad confused after all this (nothing new there!!)
Are we saying that there are 2 types of DLA form viz:
(a) the one that you fill out online and submit it online?
and
(b) the one from the Direct Gov website that you can download and print off then fill it out by hand or fill it out onscreen then print it off but either way you physically send it off by post to the DLA bods?

I can't access the main site you suggest to see the DLA form you refer to as an ID and password are both required.
I understood that the "old" DLA form was replaced a few years ago as mentioned here in a B&W News item available from the News Archive.
