I am currently on IB. When I am taken off it because of the changes in benefits will I be able to apply for carers allowance (my mum gets DLA and I am her carer) or do you need to have applied for it as soon as the DLA was awarded?
Does someone in receipt of CA and no other benefit still have to go for medicals or interviews, do you have to sign on?
Is SDA affected by the new rules? Will someone who has been receiving SDA for many years due to being profoundly deaf now be sent for a medical and even have SDA taken away? Or will any changes only apply to new applicants?
Do remember that if you are on IB you will be assessed for ESA, you won't simply have your benefit stopped. Even if you can't get IB you are likly to be eligible for Jobseekers Allowance.
Carers allowance may well be a possibility, but you do need to get advice first as your getting carers allowance might affect your mother's benefits.
People on SDA will be assessed using the work capability assessment at some point in the future.
Good luck,
Steve
