I am getting absolutely nowhere with my transfer from ESA Support group & PIP, to Universal Credit. I have uploaded everything they asked for and a home visit was arranged which is better than a phone call because of past traumatic experiences. Is there a legal way to ask for my assessment to be done by paper??. I am not hiding anything, its traumatic , i live alone and can go weeks or months without seeing anyone. My last PIP assessment was done by a Physio & got zero points but after your advise, i requested to be seen by a person qualified in dealing with mental health, & it resulted in them doing my case by paper evidence, i fot put in the higher bracket and was awarded backdated payments.
I should not be forced to let someone into my house who i do not know. Ive requested a (Right of Access) that you advised and received a letter confirming they have received it and will reply within one month. i cannot cope with a stranger in my house & I know i will forget very important things just by rushing and to get them out of my property. There is no reason why a Universal Credit cannot be done as a paper exercise, when a more important PIP assessment was done amd i was awarded the correct payments.

Hi DC

From you what you are saying you could do with some personal assistance. Have you previously had a support worker? Do you rent from a social landlord? A lot of them can offer assistance to their disabled tenants by way of personal support.

hi, i have been through the mental health system several times and they make me worse, getting passed from on case worker, to several different case workers and evan having to travel to departments out of my borough. I own my house, so i donot have a landlord, the only support worker i have at the moment isfrom the alcohol team but she is away for 2 weeks. I cant understand why the transfer to UC cannot be done by paper exercise. its traumatic to have to bring up all my issues allover again when ESA & PIP have it all on record

they came yesterday, took all my ID info, bank account, driving license, council tax & utility bills. Nothing was said what was happen next. A few hours later a message in my UC account stated they had received the visiting officers report & have referred me for a WCA even though the visiting officer was shocked at the amount of medications i am on. He was not a qualified mental health worker, so i want to know what his report says & I have also asked Univeral Credit for a copy of the report. Surely i am entitled to a copy because they have previous "lost" or "not received" important documents. Do i have a legal right to ask for a copy?? They have also said, my other benefits ESA will affect the amount i get in UC and i will still be able to claim ESA. My 1st payment is 5th March but does not say how much . I thought the whole point of moving from ESA to UC was to simplify things??? obviously not as it appears I will now be on £ benefits. ESA. PIP & Universal credit???? madness. If i do get a copy of the visiting officers report i will provide details so other members can be helped in any way.

Hi DC

By admitting that you qualify for ESA they then have to accept you have passed the WCA and do not need another one. When you first claimed ESA you would automatically have been considered for Contributions Based ESA and I expect you have been receiving that as well as an Income Based ESA top up. So you will carry on getting ESA which the DWP now calls New Style ESA and you will be in the Support/LCWRA group.
Your PIP is unaffected by the move to UC.
You can ask for the document by saying you are making a Subject Access Request ( SAR ). If they are dismissive then you can apply for the SAR online here-

Let us know how you get on.
