Got my PIP renewal form but have no idea what to write

I have multiple illnesses and disorders such as OCD, anxiety issues, depression and autism. I also am morbidly obese, have severe chronic psoriasis which I am on medication for, PCOS, possibly an underactive thyroid and two cysts, one on my thyroid and one on my kidney.

A lot of my illnesses and conditions have remained the same since my last review, however, my mobility (both physically and psychologically) has gotten worse. Also, my psoriasis has completely out of control. Also now I'm being investigated for my underactive thyroid and cysts.

Last time for the mobility part for planning and following journeys, I scored 0-points because they said I can call my mum. However, they never considered that my phone might run out of charge, there might be no signal, my phone could get stolen, etc. Things could have escalated from there and how is my mum supposed to get to me if I am over an hour away and if I'm distressed and panicking. Last time the DWP said I wasn't on any anxiety medication for anxiety, but I've been on Prozac since 2009.

Last time someone helped me fill out the PIP renewal form, but now I've got no one. I bought the guide from here but I am still stuck as to what I should put for the planning and following journeys.

I got the renewal on 13th of Friday, last week. The renewal looks a lot different, as well.

Thanks all.

Hi Jamillah1999

Have a look at the guide to PIP claims and reviews - the information you need for the review form is from page 128 onwards.

Planning and Following a Journey.

It's strange that they thought you could call your mum and then decided not to score you anything. Don't get fixated on your phone and whether you have power etc, because although I get what you're saying, it won't help you in the way you think it might.

Here are the criteria for that question and you need to work out what applies to you.

1a. Can plan and follow the route of a journey unaided. 0 points.
1b. Needs prompting to be able to undertake any journey to avoid overwhelming psychological
distress to the claimant. 4 points.
1c. Cannot plan the route of a journey. 8 points.
1d. Cannot follow the route of an unfamiliar journey without another person, assistance dog or
orientation aid. 10 points.
1e. Cannot undertake any journey because it would cause overwhelming psychological distress to
the claimant. 10 points.
1f. Cannot follow the route of a familiar journey without another person, an assistance dog or an
orientation aid. 12 points.

You don't live with your mum.
Do you live alone?
Are you able to leave the house?
Do you go shopping or to the doctors - which might be familiar places Do you need someone with you?
Do you go anywhere socially?
Do you walk, do you travel on a bus, do you take a taxi?
Do you use any sort of aid to move around such as a walking stick?

If your mental health is stopping you from leaving the house - you might be saying 1e and explaining that your OCD, anxiety issues, depression and autism all stop you from going out.

Or you may be able to go to the doctors, but you couldn't go to somewhere unfamiliar. The fact that you do need help and your mum is not close by may be affecting your ability to leave the house - that would be 1d

Have a look at page 78- 84 and the examples it gives and see if there are ones that apply to you.

Hi BIS,

Thank you for answering my question.

I do live with my mum.
I can sometimes go to the local shop alone to take a parcel or buy whatever I need.
I always have my mum with me when doing big shops and she always comes to the doctors with me.
I don't really go anywhere socially. I have no friends.
I will sometimes use the bus to get to town and have someone meet me there.

I'd say 1d applies to me more than 1e.

I don't have any aids or walking sticks, etc, but I am obese and get really breathless and get really bad pain in my legs. I have to rest quite often. I am quite slow at walking too.

Hi Jamillah1999,

Best to add all this information to your documentation - it could also be worth your while purchasing a walking stick from a mobility shop/Ebay/Amazon - you can pick them up quite cheap for under £20, then you could add this information into your documentation that you do own aids. I myself am about 8 stone overweight, and purchased these, as well as handles for my bathroom tiles, and an aid to help me with putting my shoes on. Mentioning that you own them isn't lying, you're just not telling them if you use them or not.

Chris.
