Managed Migration, losing SDP and council tax exemption was created by Sassy
Hi,
I have recently completed managed migration, but recieved a bill from council tax. I have always been exempt through the Severe Disability Premium from ESA.
Now it seems i need to prove severe mental impairment through a doctors certificate. I need to be both intellectually impaired with limited social functioning. The wording seems to exclude me as i have bipolar and ptsd, im not spectifically intellectually impaired and i feel it would be difficult to get my gp to sign me off on this.
I was under the impression that under managed migration i wouldnt be worse off but my CT is £1400 per yr! Even with single person living alone discount 5% this is an extortionate hike. They want me to repay £400 on 1st Jan!!
Also i notice the shift from 4 weekly payments to monthly with no adjustment means i lose a months money per year approx £965.
Im down 2k!! Am i missing something please 🙏

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Sassy,
You will need to look at your Council Tax bill prior to UC Migration and see what discounts you were receiving.
I expect you were in the Council Tax Reduction scheme and it appears they have not put you back in following UC migration. You will have to phone up the Council Tax Reduction Scheme department at your Council and enquire.
The SMI ( severely mentally impaired ) discount is a different thing and few people are so unwell as to be eligible. Here is the link to that.

Thank you, i really appreciate the support. I was not aware of needing to contact CT prior to MM .. I will try this morning and see how I go.
Is the extra month UC payment lost due the shift from 4wkly to monthly just something we all have to suffer?
Many thanks
Sarah

Hi Sassy,
I cannot say. Have you tried using a Benefits calculator such as Entitledto.co.uk
