HB to UC Migration - Failure to satisfy proof of rent/address

Update 2:

My work coach claims my message went to Ballymena (presumably one of DWPs main centers?) and she never saw it. She quickly interceeded this morning and arranged for the verification process to occur over the phone and using the same documents I had already provided. They appear to have been accepted and also it would appear to have been a delaying tactic while the rent officer reviewed the rent (why don't they just say that - saves all this stress??)

Now (I think) I have to wait to see if I get back-paid the housing element I was due with the next payment of UC due at the end of the month. I say 'I think' because the call quality was so abysmal I could only hear every third word and we spent ages trying to understand each other.

Will update when I know more.

Thanks!

Hi bahern,

Glad the Work Coach relented and did a telephone verification. Let us know how you get on.

Update 3:

I checked my new UC statement today and it finally includes the housing element, which is a relief. However, there was no extra for the amount missing for the first month of my UC.

So I chatted online to a CAB person and they gave me a 'Mandatory Reconsideration' template to fill in and send asking to be paid the missing month's housing element.

Apparently, as it is now more than a month since it should have been paid, I am not entitled to the reconsideration (!), and have to hope they will consider my request anyway.

I had no idea they could be so sneaky as I imagined (naively I suppose) that they were still trying to 'resolve' whatever issue it was that caused them not to pay me housing in the first place, and that it would eventually be paid.

Hopefully they look kindly on my request as I am already behind on rent now.

Hi bahern,

You need to send a UC Journal message asking for the reason why the first Housing Costs element was not paid.
You need to make sure that the message does NOT go to the Work Coach. When sending the message from the drop down list choose A Payment and then your message will go to a UC Case Manager who deals with Housing Costs. Work Coaches do not release the payment of Housing Costs and are notorious for being dismissive about UC errors.
