PIP letter says award to continue, not changed amount and says no more!

Hello everyone,

Update on my pip.

I am shocked!!!:

- I got a PIP letter thanking me for asking them to look at my PIP again and for returning the ‘How your disability affects you’ form.

- That they have decided there were good reasons for me not filling in and returning the ‘How your disability affects you’ form.
(I could not return the original form seeing I never received it, but following their text instructions I had called them to say I had not had it yet and they had reissued me with a new one)

- And that that letter explains how their decision affects my PIP:

Then it goes
“ Your PIP award”
Saying it will continue.
That they have not changed the amount of my PIP award
And that it will continue to be paid every 4 weeks

Then
“Your PIP review”
They say they still need to make sure I am getting the right amount of help. This is called a PIP review and we need your help with this.
We will if needed arrange an assessment for you”.

And that is all, after that it just talks about motability, other benefits, if my needs or conditions changes to let them know.
It does not say how they arrive at that decision, how long my pip is to last form, or give me points for each category.

Could anyone kindly help me make head and tail of this letter .
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks and best wishes to all.

Hi VIA

I cannot say that I have seen or heard about one of those letters.

By the sounds of it you have had a paper assessment in which case ask for a copy of the assessors report called a PA3.

You can apply for a MR, but you first need to know how or what they based their decision on.

Thank you very much Gary
For your kind help.

The bottom of the letter reads 06/21.

As I cannot understand that letter I rang PIP.

- If you recall PIP had wrongly stopped my PIP when they should not have.

- I had got a text telling me a PIP review form was on its way and if I did not receive it to call them, which I did. They sent me a replacement PIP review form and a text that both gave me a given date to return the form by.

- You can imagine my shock when ESA called me to tell my that because PIP had stopped (because I had not returned their form) ESA was removing my Severe Disability Payment and to defy any logic the replacement PIP review form and the text was saying I still had about 1 week to return the form by.

I told ESA it was a mistake, to hold on, but they were very quick to remove my severe disability premium on the same day.

I called PIP explained what happened, but they kept talking about the original PIP review form I had not received and they seemed to know nothing about the replacement PIP form that was still giving me around 1 week to return as confirmed also by their text.
PIP told me I could make a new application for PIP.
I kept refusing saying it was their mistake.
And the whole time they never acknowledged they had even sent me a replacement form.

They told me they could ‘ask’ a team to reinstate my PIP and if a few days time we would find out what their reply was but that the team may refuse to reinstate it.
I was crying and in distress telling them it was their fault and at no time they acknowledged they had sent that PIP replacement form and that the deadline to return it had not even passed!
They never acknowledged their mistake.
Eventually I was told it would be reinstated but it would take around to working days.

So apparently that letter which I forgot to mention also says on page 2::
- Motability
That if Motability ( I do not drive) contacted me about my PIP stopping I should tell them my PIP IS to continue.
And it said the same with other benefits such as ESA and Carers allowance if applicable.

So PIP told me this letter was to inform me ( so as not to lose money with other benefits) to contact the relevant benefits and tell them my PIP had stopped but was continuing.

PIP also told me the review had not taken place yet and would take around 1 year due to their backlog.

Af first I thought it was a review without giving me points, giving me no explanation as to how they arrived to their decision that my pip award was to continue and that they had not changed the amount.

So I have not had the review yet.
Thank you for everything and best wishes.

Hi VIA

Thanks for letting us know, you have had a horrid time, but you persevered and got the outcome you were looking for. I know many claimants who would have given up.

So give yourself a large pat on the back as it is not easy sorting things out on the phone.
