Migration Notice Extension was created by VIA
Hello
Do you think it is risky to ask for an extension to migrate to UC?
I think unless we are mistaken we can get an extra 4 weeks if we have good reasons.
I am hesitant as migration to UC is new and we do not know if people had positive or negative experiences when asking for an extension.
Also is it worth the risk they cut the benefits if something goes wrong..
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Best wishes

Hi Via,
My answer is the same as to your other question which is to contact Citizens Advice Help to Claim. Their phone number is on the UC Migration letter and also in the link I have previously sent you.
They are not part of the DWP so are impartial in their advice.

I would also advise that you contact Help to Claim. As well as advising on whether or not to ask for an extension they can advise on the best time to claim based on your individual circumstances.

I rang UC a few days before my migration letter deadline. I had problems with finding my code to start the claim. The lady on the phone gave me a month's extension. However, she had no clue why my code was not sent to my email ? Sometime later I found it junk mail box !

Thank you deb10 and David for your help,
- I have found benefitsandwork guides;
. ESA To UC - A Guide to Migration
. And ESA To UC Managed Migration FAQ
Extremely helpful.
- Thank you David for Advising me to telephone Citizens Advice Bureau, I will do so after I have gone through the guides and helpful videos out there on Managed Migration to UC ( some videos show you what it looks like for real from start to finish on the original website) as I am writing my questions down little by little to ask CAB.
- It is comforting and I am happy for you deb19 that you got the extension you needed.
Do you or David know if by requestion an extension we lose the Transitional protection if applicable to our case?
Many thanks and best wishes.

Hi Via,
No you won't lose your transitional protection by requesting an extension. Let me know how you get on.
