A further update. During the interview I was told they would request bank statements which I thought was reasonable and I assumed it would be for 3 months or similar.

I have now received a letter saying they want statements for every account from the 1st day I register for UC. This is over 2.5 years ago and seems excessive.

I feel they are prying into my accounts and my life unnecessarily and looking for issues.

I have not done anything wrong to my knowledge but I am unhappy with this timescale as it was not brought up in the interview. I am wondering if anybody else has had to give them statements covering more than 2 years?

As no timescale was agreed in the interview, I am thinking of calling them and suggesting 3 months would be more reasonable.

It's certainly worth asking why they need so many - 30 bank statements could mean an awful lot of paper! I'll be interested to see if there are any other members who have had a similar request.

Hi Johnny,

I had to supply copies of a similar amount of bank statements when ESA did not process a letter I sent about a small inheritence.
Despite doing everything correctly, chasing them up etc they for unknown reasons did not adjust my ESA. When they finally responded to a letter I sent reminding them yet again they suspended my benefit and requested the statements.

I was fortunate that Mind Welfare benfits office did all the copies for me on their rather flashy photocopier and also sent a covering letter outlining their mistake.
It was stressful at the time but like you I knew I had not done anything wrong and the mistake was theirs though I had to prove it.
it was resolved quite quickly once they had the bank statements.

Worth getting Welfare Rights involved perhaps?

Thank you Gaddy for the reply and information.

I had not thought of Welfare Rights. I will definitely check them out, as it would be useful to get an opinion on my rights in this situation.
