RANDOM ESA PAYMENT was created by ClaireEN
Hello all. Please bear with me, will try and keep this short. I have been on ESA for a fair number of years due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. I never had to undertake those dreaded "medicals" as all the forms which I submitted each time a review came up, I was found unfit for work based on them. Until now. Last month, had a telephone assessment which I did not feel went well. The lady in question, although pleasant enough, obviously had no knowledge of my medical history or indeed the issues I face on a daily basis coping with this disease. Anyway I heard nothing but my payments continued to go into my account including Wednesday just past.
Alongside this worry about the outcome, the mail in our area has been totally askew. Mass shortages of staff have caused immense problems and people are not getting their important mail such as hospital appointments. In almost 3 weeks, seen the postal worker only about 4 times in my estate.
I tried ringing ESA several times for any updates and each time hung on the line for 50 minutes listening to inane music and an automated voice so I ended up giving up and just hoping that all would be okay.
Anyway. last night (Friday), had cause to go onto my bank account and there was a credit of £32.60 of ESA sitting there. Too late by now to phone them to ask what on earth was it for but given their penchance for not answering the phone, would have been pointless even trying. As I say got my 2 weeks normal payment on Wednesday past and now this and no clue as to why. No decision letter, no nothing to explain. The payment doesn't seem to be a component for anything nor divisible and broken down to signify any additional days. Naively assumed that having my payments stopped would mean they just wouldn't go into the bank when due. Now deeply worried this is a final wrap up payment as I am apparently cured after 24 years of my debilitating disease. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, does it truly mean that is it. Given the problems with the mail, each day I don't receive a decision letter is eating away into a 30 day timeline to appeal. Got an awful feeling of dread that this is the start of a nightmarish journey. Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me.

Hi ClaireEN
I have absolutely no idea, the only way of finding out is to contact ESA and ask.
The best time to try and contact is first thing in the morning, I would start at 10 to 9am , lines usually do not open until 9.00am, if you get a voice mail informing that lines are not yet open , hang up and redial until you get a ringing tone.
